Your choices may come from the Methodist Hymnal we use each Sunday or from another hymnal. Email your selections to George directly at [email protected]. Given that this Sunday is the first Sunday of the month, the sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated the following Sunday, September 14. Deacons’ Luncheon and Malayaka House - September 14 “Rescheduled “ The Deacons’ Luncheon has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 26. Robert Fleming, founder of Malayaka House in Uganda, Africa who was to be our guest speaker had to unexpectedly return to Uganda. He will be back in the U. S. in October and thus will able to be available to speak at our church on the above date. Malayaka House rescues orphaned and abandoned children in Uganda. It provides a secure home where the children can thrive in an environment of love. The Outreach/Mission Committee from the church support this orphanage with funds from its budget. The luncheon will be held immediately following the service. The menu will include hoagies, homemade desserts and beverages. A signup sheet for those willing and able to help with providing food for the luncheon will be available in the entry way of the church closer to October 26th. In Search of Hosts for the Young Americans Connie Wilcox, our former organist and long-time vocal music teacher in Ludlow has asked me to solicit housing for a singing group. The Young Americans are successors to what many of us knew as Up with People. These are young people ages 18-26 that travel the country to provide workshops for elementary and secondary students. This year the workshop is at Green Mountain HS in Chester. Kids from Ludlow, Mount Holly, and Cavendish Elementary and Black River Middle and High School are involved. Hosting is something Ginny and I have done for years, mostly for international people, to our great advantage in terms of understanding and our own growth. These young people provide the same opportunities for us. They sing, dance, act, and teach these arts to our local kids. The finale is a production where the kids are the singers, dancers and actors. Young Americans are carefully chosen and thoroughly trained. They travel from school district to school district bringing an uplifting presence and eliciting enthusiasm from students, parents, educators and their communities. This opportunity falls within our Church’s historical community outreach. The dates for hosting are October 15 through 18. Hosting involves a place to sleep, some meals, and transportation. This is a well-structured and planned experience. Please see Bob Kottkamp for details and application forms. Ginny and I will be hosting. George Thomson can fill you in on how students benefit. Elizabeth (Bouchard) Paul Aguiar (April 28, 1926 – August 28, 2014) Our sympathy is extended to the family of Elizabeth (Bouchard) Paul Aguiar who passed on August 28, 2014. Elizabeth was the mother of Howard Paul of Ludlow. A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Ludlow on Wednesday, September 10 at 2:00 P.M.
