Members and friends of the church also have the opportunity to present monetary gifts in memory or in honor of individuals. A dedication form is provided in this week’s bulletin. To be included in the bulletin for Reformation Sunday, all gifts should be made out to the United Church of Ludlow and be in the church office by Wednesday, October 26th. For more information, you can speak with Anne Oakes, Receiver of Offerings. Gifts in Memory of Ed Boadway Gifts to the church in memory of Ed are encouraged. They will be used to provide a scholarship fund in his name for individuals learning to play the organ through the Vermont Chapter of American Guild of Organists. As with other special donations, these gifts will be acknowledged Reformation Sunday, October 30. Outreach Committee Just to refresh your memories, our Outreach Committee has reserved $500 until the end of the church year, which is September 30, to donate to a worthy cause. Last year we gave this money to the Nepal Disaster Relief effort as part of the conference contributions. The year before that we used it to make and fill school kit bags as part of the UCC Disaster Ministries. This year we have decided to give it to the Scholarship Fund which has been started in memory of Ed Boadway for students learning to play the organ. We have a total budget of $4,000. Two years ago the church members voted to give $1,750 to BRGN and the same amount to Malayaka House each year, reserving the $500 for year’s end. We hope this meets with everyone’s approval. What better way to show our love and appreciation for all of Ed’s contributions to our worship services and our church family. Malayaka House Founder to Visit Church On Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00 P.M., Robert Fleming will describe recent events at Malayaka House, the small Entebbe Uganda orphanage that he founded and is the international focus of our outreach mission. Also, George and Linda Thomson will present a slide show of the highlights of their August two-week visit to MH, which included a safari led by MH people. The public has been invited to attend this not-to-be-missed MH event. Desserts (some from African recipes) and beverages will be served. MH crafts, which make great gifts for Christmas and other occasions, will be available for purchase. If you would like to bake some of the desserts, African recipes are available from Judi Krieger. From the Executive Board Bob Kottkamp has announced that he will not stand for reelection to the office of Church President at the coming Annual Meeting in November. The Board asks that members of the congregation give serious consideration either to volunteering for the post or nominating others whom the Board might encourage. Bob is open to discussing the responsibilities of office with anyone including those potentially interested in the position and those wanting more information as part of nominating others. He does not believe it incumbent upon him to find a person to fill the position. Comments are closed.
