Heating Efficiency
The Church has two furnaces – one for the downstairs and one for the upstairs.
The upstairs heating system works well.  The downstairs heating system, not so much.

As we all know, heat rises.  When the downstairs heating system is turned on,
it keeps on heating until the specified temperature is reached.
The specified temperature is rarely reached when the doors from the social hall
and/or the kitchen to the front hallway are left open (as they frequently are)
because the heat rises up the stairs, frequently making the sanctuary too hot.

Besides the discomfort, a lot of fuel is wasted when those doors are open.
So please keep those doors closed as much as possible during the heating season.

 Lenten Bible Study
For the 2017 Lenten season, plans are to focus on Christianity’s most famous prayer,
Lord’s Prayer.

We will be using John Dominic Crossan, The Greatest Prayer:
Rediscovering the Revolutionary Message of the Lord’s Prayer.
New York:  HarperCollins, 2011.

It is a prayer that we say together every Sunday in our worship together.
Moreover, it is a prayer that most of us know by heart and one we carry with us
wherever we go.
Nevertheless, familiarity can have its negatives, the main one assuming
we know the spiritual depths our Lord is affirming in this model for prayer.

Cost for the book is $11.00.  See Bill Kneebone for a copy.
The six sessions in the Ladies Parlor will run from
Wednesday, March 1 to Wednesday, April 5 at 2:00 P.M.

Valentines’ Dinner
For many years, our Church has arranged for a Valentines’ Dinner.
If you are interested in having one of these fun-filled evenings this year,
please let David Almond know.

The Valentine's Dinner is not restricted to United Church folks so everyone
should feel free to invite others (2 of those signed up are not affiliated with the Church).

If enough people are interested, David will arrange for a dinner at the
Landgrove Inn on -  Friday, February 10, 2017
-  cash bar from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M.
-  dinner from to 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
-  order from menu;
-  use your own credit card to cover costs
(usually about $30 per person plus beverages).
Contact David at 228-2414 or bethalmond@tds.net.
