            CHORUS:
            Faith of our mothers, holy faith!  We will be true to thee to death!

            Faith of our mothers, grounded in strength, though oft discounted and dismissed,

            CHORUS:
            Faith of our mothers, holy faith!  We will be true to thee to death!

            Faith of our mothers, leading us still, whether adorned with work boots or lace;

Lyrics to the Hymns and Responsive Reading
for the May 9 Service

HYMN 89*                           Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away.
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!

All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays,
stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,
chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,
wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our brother, all who live in love are thine;
teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the mighty chorus which the morning stars began;
love divine is reigning o'er us, binding all within its span.
Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife;
joyful music leads us sunward, in the triumph song of life.

HYMN *710                                           Faith of Our Mothers
Words by Rev. HK Sotak, ©2021

Faith of our Mothers, living still, in spite of prison, stake, and fire;
Though they faced cruelty, spite, and scorn, still they pressed on with God’s desire
CHORUS: Faith of our mothers, holy faith!  We will be true to thee to death!

Faith of our mothers, grounded in strength, though oft discounted and dismissed,
Carried the Church through famine and wars, making a way despite bullet and fist.
CHORUS

Faith of our mothers, leading us still, whether adorned with work boots or lace;
Preaching and teaching, with apron or stole; leading with love and sharing God’s grace.
CHORUS

HYMN 593*                                    Here I Am, Lord

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry
All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright,
Who will bear my light to them?  Whom shall I send?

Refrain:
Here I am, Lord.  Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night
I will go, Lord, If You lead me
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne My people's pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them.  Whom shall I send?

Refrain

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame,
I will set a feast for them, My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide, Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them.  Whom shall I send?

Refrain
