Terry DeYoung, Our New Organist Today we welcome Terry DeYoung as our new organist. She is a fourth generation Vermonter. She spent her early years till age 6 on a dairy farm in South Royalton which her family owned since the late 1800s. After finishing college at UVM her parents moved to Kinderhook, New York. Her education was in Nursing at Albany Medical Center. As the years passed, she became a nurse, married and had 4 children. She played the organ and piano at local churches, owned a retail store and had a very busy life! With death of her husband in 2001, her life changed forever. She found herself a widow raising 4 children on her own. They moved back to Vermont and started a new life. She looked for a church in need of a musician and found the East Middlebury Methodist Church where she played for many years. She also played the organ at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Middlebury and Middlebury Methodist Church when needed. She took the Castleton Federated Church organist/pianist position. At the same time Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rutland hired her as choir and music director where she served for six years. The two positions overlapped for about a year until a new musician was hired for Castleton. Since 2017, Terry has substituted in several UCC churches including Manchester, Vt., Brandon, and Tyson. For the last 10 years she has volunteered monthly with the presiding pastor from the Middlebury Methodist Church playing hymn sing church services for residents of Helen Porter Nursing Facility and Project Independence (adult daycare) in Middlebury. It is through this part of her music ministry that she sees the difference that hymns and music make. It’s the link from the past into the lives of residents as they age, bringing peace and joy. In addition, she does Homecare for the elderly. Terry is also a shepherd with 21 sheep, an artisan, spinner and weaver. She loves talking about her sheep. Every day is a new adventure at her farm in Pittsford, Vermont! . CliA warm welcome to all visitors.
