The theme for the 2014 Christmas Fund Offering is: A Light Is Drawing Near For 112 years, the Christmas Fund for the Veterans of the Cross and the Emergency Fund has been a way in which we, as members of the United Church of Christ and the predecessor denominations, reflect the light of Jesus Christ in the lives of the many women and men who have so faithfully and selflessly served, and who now find themselves facing unforeseen financial crises. An offering envelope is available at the church. The offering will be dedicated on Sunday, December 21. 2015 Lenten Bible Study The general question will deal with the many and varied fears all of us have as we live out our lives on this earth. To provide a context for our discussions, we will be using Megan McKenna’s book, The Hour of the Tiger: Facing our Fears. She is an internationally known author, lecturer, retreat leader and spiritual director. Your pastor had the pleasure of hearing her speak at the Awakenings Conference in Holyoke, Massachusetts this past spring. The six sessions will meet on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. in the Ladies Parlor on February 10, February 17, February 24, March 10, March 17, and March 24. See Bill Kneebone if you would like to order the book at the cost of $15. All are welcome to attend in what should prove to be some meaningful discussions. Christmas Eve Candle Light Service Participate in a service of carols and listen to theatrical readings from one of the wise men, a “reporter” on the scene of Jesus’ birth, another innkeeper in Bethlehem, an old shepherd, a contemporary housewife, and a church elder. The Christmas Eve Candle Light Service to be held on Wednesday, December 24 at 7:30 P.M. features a set of dramatic character presentations that foster new understandings of the familiar Christmas Story. Come sing the old carols; light your own candle; celebrate Jesus’ birth.
