From the Church Secretary: I will be away for two weeks so you will not be getting your weekly announcements in email format until March 27th. They will be in each bulletin. Below is a compilation of announcements for the next three Sundays.

Upcoming Events …Palm Sunday Service and Dedication of One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, March 29 …Maundy Thursday Service, April 2, 7:00 P.M. in Social Hall …Easter Service, April 5 Weekly Offerings Offerings and other cash receipts for March 1 were $842. The receipts for March 8, March 15 and March 22 will be recorded in the March 29 bulletin. The cost for each week is $1,385.00 (derived by dividing the annual budget by 52 weeks). Altar Guild Brenda Dansingburg will be the Altar Guild person during the month of March. Coffee Hour A time of fellowship following the service of worship is held in the social hall. Coffee, juice and refreshments will be served. Ushers for the month of March This is a reminder for those of you who have signed up and a notice of those Sundays that are open. Ushers March 8 Dalene & Otto March 15 ** Open March 22 ** Open March 29 ** Open Lenten Banner The banner hanging in the front of the sanctuary represents the wilderness, reminding us of the forty days that Jesus spent there, fasting and being tempted by the devil. The palms are for Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. And the purple, the color of royalty is a reference to Christ the King. The variety of purples and the black lettering remind us of the pain, suffering and passion that we remember as we pray during this season. Bordering the banner is the color of white that represents the anticipation of the Easter season. 2015 Lenten Bible Study The general question will deal with the many and varied fears all of us have as we live out our lives on this earth. To provide a context for our discussions, we will be using Megan McKenna’s book, The Hour of the Tiger: Facing our Fears. She is an internationally known author, lecturer, retreat leader and spiritual director. Your pastor had the pleasure of hearing her speak at the Awakenings Conference in Holyoke, Massachusetts this past spring. The remaining three sessions will meet on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. in the Ladies Parlor on March 10, March 17, and March 24. March 10 - Chapter 2, Facing Death and Chapter 3, Fear of Violence, Terrorism and War March 17 – Chapter 4, Suffering, Pain and Disease March 24 – Chapter 10, Riding the Tiger See Bill Kneebone if you would like to order the book at the cost of $15. All are welcome to attend in what should prove to be some meaningful discussions. Palm Sunday One Great Hour of Sharing Offering Our offering makes the love of Christ real for individuals and communities around the world who suffer from disaster, conflict, or poverty. One Great Hour of Sharing ministries reach people worldwide, including the United States. Together we provide disaster relief, health care, education, job training, shelter, schools clean water, and food. Our offering to One Great Hour of Sharing helps meet the needs that make the headlines and needs that headlines ignore. We give to this ministry on Palm Sunday, but the good work done by our gifts gives life again, and again, and last much longer. An offering envelope will be in the March 22 and March 29 bulletin. Evelyn Verro Mrs. Evelyn Verro, of North Springfield and a faithful member of United Church of Ludlow, has relocated to an assisted living facility in Albany, New York. Evelyn was a member of the Feminine Tones which sang in our church a number of times. When the group made a trip to Cuba, she went along. She also served as the church’s choir director in past years. This choir which included the pastor, William Sherwerts, Robert Fletcher, and nine female voices sang hymns in a unique barbershop style which emphasized the more important words of the lyrics. In addition, Evelyn was a licensed pastor in the Methodist Church serving the Methodist parish of Richmondville and Warnerville in the Schoharie Valley of New York State for three years. She also filled the pulpits of churches in our area including United Church of Ludlow. We gratefully acknowledge her service to Christ’s Church both in Ludlow and beyond. Evelyn has always risen to a variety of challenges in life. Most recently, she went up in a glider which reminded her of the time when she was a licensed pilot.
