Annual Church Picnic – Saturday, June 13
The annual church picnic at the Thomsons (131 Thomson Drive) will be on Sunday, July 13, rain or shine, starting after fellowship time after church (that will give us an opportunity to race home after the hymn sing and get set up!)

As usual, we will provide the meat for grilling and ask folks to bring something to share…appetizers, salad, desert etc. If you have any special drink requests, we ask that you bring that along too!

Come prepared to have fun.  We have a beautiful lake to swim in, kayaks, canoes a rowboat a paddle boat, lawn games and chairs to sit an just relax. We look forward to welcoming you to our finished home……although landscaping is next and hopefully will be complete by the 2015 picnic!!

Hymn Sing
On Sunday July 13, in lieu of a sermon we will be having a hymn sing…..to sing some favorites and hopefully to learn some new songs.

To help prepare and not throw any curves to Ed, we are asking that you provide the names of songs that you might like included.  If your selections are not in the hymnal, provide the name and if possible a copy of the selection and I will pass it on to Ed and make copies.

Please understand that we may be limited on the number of selections we sing by time and difficulty in accompanying.  It certainly is not my intention to ask Ed to learn difficult new selections.

It is the intent for us ALL to have fun!  But it is an opportunity to learn some new songs too. Also, please understand that we may not be able to honor all requests!

So…. Please complete the form provided in the bulletin.  Leave it at the church or send me an email at thomson131vt@gmail.com.

Father’s Day
Father's Day was inaugurated in the United States in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting.

Father's Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas. Its first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910.

Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there.  After hearing a sermon about Mother's Day in 1909, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father's birthday, the pastors did not have enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June.

In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers, designating the third Sunday in June as Father's Day.   Six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
GOD CALLED IT…..DAD

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it...
Dad

WINDHAM-UNION ASSOCIATION SPRING MEETING - June 8, 2014
Westminster West Congregational Church
Registration at 1:15 P.M.
Business Meeting at 1:30 P.M.

The spring meeting is the time when the Association does its business; reporting on its activities, hearing a short message from the Vermont Conference, electing officers and adopting a budget.
Most importantly, it’s also a time for the Association to gather for worship, fellowship and shared ministry.

The Spring Meeting will be an important event in the life of the Association and the life of Dr. Lise Sparrow, as the Association meets as an Ecclesiastical Council to see if it will approve Dr. Lise for ordination as a minister in the United Church of Christ.  Bob and Ginny Kottkamp and Pastor Harpster will be attending the meeting.
